Francie Hester: Symbolic Spaces
Symbolic Spaces, examines time as infinite, fluid, without discrete beginning or end. Hester creates spaces where thought, time and memory come together as a collective through the use of fabricated steel, plexiglass disks; disks of solid aluminum; and aluminum panels. Successive layers of acrylic paint are applied, sanded, heated, and then reapplied to create the depth of the surface. Some surfaces are etched with brain scans; and others are drilled. A final layer of wax and raw pigment pulls out the patina and richness of the layered colors.
A REMEMBRANCE
Ten percent of the sales for Symbolic Spaces will be donated to The Smith Center for Healing and the Arts in Washington, DC, in honor of Brendan Ogg, a young poet who died of brain cancer at age 20 and whose life and work served as an inspiration for these pieces.
